One of the great things regarding the internet is things change so quickly. This is good; it allows new marketers to take advantage of novel trends and new developments. If you do not respond quickly to new market conditions, your business - and income - can be adversely affected.

That is why you need to have multiple streams of income - so that if your current top earner disappears off Google's radar or one of your many competitors introduces a new product that wipes the floor with your best offering, - you have other income streams to fall back on.

It is like buying stocks and shares - you want to have a diverse portfolio to avoid any sudden spikes and glitches in the market. Alternatively, put it another way - do not "put all your eggs in one basket."

Where are you going to find these multiple streams of income? Sometimes it can be difficult to find even one business opportunity worth investing your time, energy, and money in. The first logical place to look is the market.

It is not easy to get hold of hard data when it comes to marketing and often, when you do get some, they are well out of date. However, the figures below show the UK market percentages of directly sold goods for 2000, a year when the totals spent in this area was $2 billion. These figures were sourced from the UK Direct Selling Association and make for interesting reading.

Remember to use a logical approach when evaluating your options - the key areas to look at are; the company; the pay plan; the product; the level of administration; the sales methods available; and the cost - both start up and running.

If this is your first business, try to start with an opportunity that will provide you with residual income. Concentrate on only one business at a time. Work this until you get it to an acceptable level where it is growing without too much time input on your part. It doesn't need to be making thousands of dollars every month - it's easier to arrange for 5 businesses to return $1000 each, than it is to arrange that a single business will return $5000 a month (the law of diminishing returns).

It will probably take at least 6 months, and possibly more, to get each business to the steady growth phase, but its well worth the effort. This will provide you with a diverse income, which will be stable and highly unlikely to be severely impacted by changes in market conditions.

If an opportunity arises in one particular area, you can focus on that for a period in order to maximize your profits. In addition, if there is a downturn in an , you can always use the income from the other sectors to weather the storm.

When you eventually have your multiple income streams online and they are all working well - always be on the lookout for any new opportunities to add to your business portfolio. You can never have too much of a good thing.

WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE A PROFIT?

Simply put, you provide a product or service in return for money. Do not worry if you do not "have" a product - just get one from somebody else and then sell it, or get involved in an affiliate marketing system. Successful merchants have been doing this for thousands of years.

You do not have to make the product yourself. You do not even have to own it. You can simply sell it on someone else's behalf and then take a percentage of the profit.

If possible, try to market a product or service that is provided on a monthly subscription basis. That way you will get your percentage every month - residual income.

Do not get involved with any business that does not have a genuine product and which pays you for recruiting others into the business. This type of arrangement is characteristic of a pyramid scheme.

WHY CHOOSE NETWORK MARKETING?

Pick a good company to work with. Ideally one that has been around for a while and which provides good training and support. Selecting the right company to collaborate with will significantly increase your chances of success and minimize the probability of being scammed.

Most scammers and con artists tend not to stick around too long. They make their money and then move on before they are caught - so choosing to work with an established company is always a good idea if you want to reduce risk.

Another key player is the person who recruited you or introduced you to the opportunity. They may be referred to as your "upline", "team leader", "sponsor", "mentor" etc. depending upon the company that you are working with.

This person does not need to be at the very top of the business. If they were, then they might find it difficult to find time to help you. However, they should be experienced and willing to help. Exchange emails with them, talk on the phone, and see how responsive they are. If they are not right for you, then you can always get involved in the same opportunity but with a different mentor.

Finally, you will build your own team or "downline". Try to be a good sponsor to your team members and help them out as much as you can. Remember - Just because you introduced them to the business, you are not their boss. Offer them advice and encouragement but do not forget they came into your opportunity to have their own business - just as you did.

Imagine this scenario: you cannot afford anything other than free advertising. You have a well-written sales letter, or a very nice looking site, but have a hard time trying to promote it. You try to advertise your site with traffic exchanges but with little success, if any. Your site even has a section to get visitors to sign-up for your mailing list, because you are smart and know the money is in the list. Nobody signs up for even that.

Sound familiar? Well you probably are in need of a splash page.

Simply put, a splash page is a page that a person can read and process in just a few seconds. It could be anything from a few words and a picture, to a flash animation, or any number of things. The important thing is that it grabs the reader's attention, and fast.

Why a splash page? Well if you show your reader some long, cluttered sales letter, the vast majority of your viewers will simply brush your site off and move on. They do not have the time to look at whatever your site has to offer. You may have the best, most eye grabbing headline thought of, but fact of the matter is, people do not have time to read your site fully, or they are simply too lazy. Either way, you can kiss that future sale/prospect/whatever goodbye.

If you are reading this, perhaps you are lazy when it comes to your online business. Alternatively, maybe you are not lazy; you just have a life and cannot commit yourself to your online business 24/7, or every free second you have. Whatever the case, time is not on your side, when it comes to working with your online business.

I will cut to the chase. One strategy is to place a link to your site in your signature in an online forum. I use this a lot. Much of my free time is spent online, lurking through message boards. Do not blatantly post on random forums in an attempt to advertise; this is considered spamming, and will probably get you banned from the forum. It will ruin your credibility and reputation with that group of people, and so you can kiss those potential prospects and sales good-bye. Whatever your business is about, there is a forum on the internet regarding it. I guarantee it. If your business is about internet marketing, then focus on forums about internet marketing. If your business is about online auctions, focus on forums that are about online auctions. You get the idea.

However, if you want to be daring, try advertising your MLM business in, say a video game forum, but good luck, you will need it. I have tried putting a link to my site in forums of my interests and expertise, but had nothing to do with business, without much luck. Make sure the forum allows you to advertise your site in your signature, first. Now post away, making sure you contribute to the nature of the board. This is critical, as you will appear to be an expert in whatever field you are in, and people browsing through will be more inclined to click the link to your site in your signature. That and every post you make creates a back link to your site, which is critical for search engine optimization.

Perhaps forum posting is not for you. Maybe you are a newbie, and would not be welcomed in internet forums, (people on some internet forums can be extremely vicious, and I have been on forums for too long to know that).

Another strategy you can use is to write articles! Many articles you read online are written by everyday, run of the mill, normal people. If you were smart enough to find this article, then you are smart enough to write a short article about any feature in online business. You do not have to write some 50-page essay or anything. When people look up information on the internet, they want it short, sweet, and to the point. Who has time to read some giant essay, when all they want is information about starting an online business? A good count range would be around 400-500 words, give or take. There are tons of article directories online where you can submit your articles. Just look up "article submission" on Google and see the hundreds of directories listed. You can get your own blog, and post your articles on it, as well.

I do all of the above and I am lazy as heck. A guru about online business is the last thing I am, and this took less than half an hour to write, so you should have no problem with article writing and blogging.

There are many, many other ways to promote your site for free and with little effort, but you know what? I am too lazy to list them all here. Assuming you actually read everything up to this point, you are more than intelligent enough to find your own ways of advertising. Just remember to work smarter, not harder, and in time your goal will be attained.

- purchasing supplies and equipment

- market research

- hooking up your new computer, modem, fax and installing software

- trouble shooting computer problems

- writing articles, reports, or white papers

These are not revenue generating activities and if you find them challenging or time-consuming, delegate these tasks to someone else like a family member, co-op student, or part-time assistant.

For the more specialized items, seek the input of a mastermind member or business colleague on how they handle those responsibilities. Also, hire or barter with experts in marketing, web design, and technology.

Another wheel you do not need to re-invent is that of processes, particularly in the area of marketing.

Marketing may not be your forte, yet it is the most important element of your business. This is where many new home business owners bury themselves.

The good news is you do not have to develop your marketing process by trial and error.

Commit several days to studying other businesses both in and outside of your industry.

How do they promote themselves? How do they collect leads? How do they convert leads?

In other words, how do they catch the attention of potential customers, get them to express an interest to learn more, and how do they get them to ultimately pull out their wallets and buy?

The quickest and easiest way to create winning processes is to study already successful businesses, then model what they do.

Sign up for their newsletters and request additional information. Let them begin a courtship with you and pay attention to what they are doing. Buy a product or two and see what tools they use to keep inviting you back for more.

This does not mean copy them word for word or action by action, but assimilate what works, mould it to your specific business, and add the essential ingredient of uniqueness that allows you to stand out from the crowd.

These are just three simple strategies you can start with today to get on the fast track to home business success.

Again, here they are in a nutshell:

1. Uncover what has already been created or invented, then implement or install. Do not reinvent the wheel.

2. Think like a business owner, not an employee. Delegate, hire, or trade.

You have decided that you may have come to the end in your hard working career and "going for it" on the net. It's been a few years and you have yet to make the money that you read about, hoped for, and dreamed about. The wife tells you "well, at least you tried..." The kids continue their interruptions never becoming used to you actually working on the pc, rather than playing games. Frustration has packed a tent and camped on your shoulders. What was it? Why is it you tried promoting each and every product as if they were you own. Why!! Relax. I have a bit of news for you and it's all good.

True story, about a year ago I found myself extremely frustrated. I was not doing so badly in life, I just wanted more. I wanted to live not from check to check, but to have a bit of money in the bank where I did not have to worry about getting to the bank before the mortgage check hit. I wanted to be able to take a vacation to somewhere other than the same fifty-mile trip we took year after year. I was not asking for a handout, I was truly working at it. There were days that I put in twenty hours between my outside job, you know the one where I got a check, and my "own business" where I seemed to work and work and have little profit.

I stuck with the affiliate marketing. After an up and down on the EBay train, I thought the shipping and feedback stuff was a bit too much. With affiliate marketing I had the best of all worlds, I get paid and would not have to touch a thing. Oh yeah, I would put all my concentration into affiliate marketing. I did some research and decided to go with a reputable product. I did some research and felt pretty confident about what I was marketing. Well, needless to say after some hard work, I made about $300 in a month's time, not a shout, but it was better than nothing.

While surfing for ideas to promote and be more effective I came across hundreds of products and much of them seemed to be like me, marketing something for someone else. I took my time and selected one. It was seemingly smart. I read the course and felt confident about the first few pages. After about a day of reading and highlighting I put the system to work. Through the system tactics I made $122.00 for the month. Wait a minute! I made almost two hundred less, not including the twenty dollars I paid for the program and forty dollars for add on material. I wasn't happy.

I went back to the system I was using. I figure I made $300, perhaps, if I practiced this system better, I could do better. I repeated what I did the month before, but did so with a bit more aggression and yep here it is I made $377.00. Ok, something is right.

Yet, while I was happy, what was it I was missing? It was like setting the mousetrap, but not catching the mouse. Was the cheese to hard, the peanut butter to moist? So I re-read the program and found something I thought I was missing. My third month of dedication to my working system was the baby I was waiting for! I made a profit of, get this $2872.00! Yeah! The kids do not bother me now! Wife says, "Are you going to work in your office, home office mind you. I felt great!

It has been ten months and some days since I found out what it was that was keeping me from making the profits you can make with Affiliate Marketing. If you want your online business to succeed, you have to advertise. There is absolutely no way around it. Unfortunately, for most aspiring online entrepreneurs, advertising on the internet is neither cheap nor easy. Many types of internet advertising do not even guarantee that anyone will visit your site. If there is one form of advertising that will guarantee visitors to your site, it is traffic exchanges. The question is; can you use them to their full potential?

I will not waste your time explaining how traffic exchanges work. I am sure you already know how they work. That aside, when you use traffic exchanges to build up credits/tokens/etc., people are viewing your site, also building up their own stash of page views for their own site. Consider traffic exchanges, will they bring you site visitors who are actually interested and read what your site has to say, or will they simply ignore it and keep clicking, focusing only on building credits?

The truth is most people could care less about your site. It does not matter how it looks, what you are offering, or anything like that. If you want to promote some long sales letter, or a product from some affiliate program, you can pretty much forget about using traffic exchanges. Traffic exchanges have a certain time limit on how long you must remain on a site before you gain a credit. The longest time limit I have ever seen is 30 seconds. Most people will not be able to fully read and comprehend a long sales letter in that amount of time. Even if you are not promoting some sales letter, and instead you are promoting your home page, which has pictures and banners and all sorts of stuff, you honestly cannot expect to convince some random person to buy something from your site in such a short amount of time.

I think I have said enough about using traffic exchanges ineffectively. The mistake most people on traffic exchanges make is they try to sell right away with their home page/sales letter/etc. They also do not seem to realize that every person on a traffic exchange is somebody trying to promote their website, and that everybody is trying to earn credits for page views.

In my opinion, the best way to benefit from traffic exchanges is by having a splash page that features an opt-in lead form for your mailing list. Personally, I advertise a splash page that offers a free e-book when people sign up for my mailing list, and it has worked quite well in growing my list. If you do not have a mailing list, you should at least have some form of a splash page that will captivate the viewer's attention and curiosity in an instant. If successful, a splash page can lead to people checking out your true site because they are curious, not because they are click-crazy.

A splash page is small, so the visitor will not have to scroll much while surfing the traffic exchange, if at all. In addition, it will not take very long to load in the traffic exchange. It is quite possible that if you promote a long site, the timer will run out before your site even loads on the visitor's browser. They still get a credit for surfing, but you lose a credit, even though the visitor did not see your site.

Now here is where things get interesting. There will always be people who do not know what they are doing on traffic exchanges. They will be the ones promoting long sales letters that nobody will read. Therefore, it is to your own advantage to build a splash page that will be eye-candy for visitors, and relieve them from the boredom of clicking through sites they have no interest in reading. With this in mind, traffic exchanges can be very beneficial and profitable for you, if you use them right.

Sometimes I wonder if my online home business is going anywhere. Am I doing anything right? Will it just become another one of my failures in life? I will admit, many times I have felt that I should cut my losses and move on. Then I consider why I am trying to succeed in making money online in the first place.

The idea of earning money from the internet has fascinated me for a long time. The thought of working on a computer to earn money to put in the bank, to buy whatever my heart desired, to help others, became a driving force to make it a reality.

Several years ago, I saw an infomercial with Chuck Woolery, on selling items on EBay, and that it could bring financial freedom. I researched at length on how to profit from EBay, and the idea of drop shippers, and wholesalers, and all that marketing mumbo jumbo. Unfortunately, that idea never got off the ground. Looking back, I guess it was too much for me to handle at the time.

Later, a Youtube video, showed a professional video gamer. It had his brand of computer and gaming hardware. (Look for "playing video games for a Living" on Youtube.)

He said his business would be a good way to secure his future now. Someday his hand-an-eye coordination and reflexes will not be as good. Now, he can make money doing something he loves.

I am a big gamer myself. I also realize that my quick thinking skills, eyesight, and reflexes will begin to decline someday. I will not be able to play as well as I did in my prime. I try to make money online in hopes that I will be able to help pay my way through life, and be able to make money by doing something I spend a lot of time doing, which is being on the computer.

Am I crazy for doing this? Probably. Am I foolish for doing this? Probably, even more so. Noticing that I have a sign up, is proof beyond all reasonable doubt, that it is possible to make a decent quantity of money through the internet. That's one more sign up towards my goal. It makes all the work I put into this all worthwhile. It could take months, maybe even years before I start making a generous profit, but it is from little acorns that big oak trees grow.

Whether it is part-time or a full-time business, you will need to operate it just like any other business; in other words, you must give your home business the same amount of time and attention as you would to any other type of business. How did I find out this truth? There was a time when I was myself a disorganized home business owner. I joined a lot of membership sites, purchased a lot of products and subscriptions, and even before I could take control of all that, my inbox was full of receipt numbers, passwords, invoice numbers, download links, etc. I got completely crazy over it and that was why I decided to get myself organized.

Now there are basically three things you need to organize. First off, if you are like me who have purchased a lot of products and memberships, record your receipt numbers, passwords, usernames, etc, in an Excel(tm) database. Then name it 'My Account Manager' or whatever you like to call it. When you need a product simply look at this database to find out the required information.

The second thing that you need to track is your monthly expenses and income. While tracking monthly expenses and income is a must for tax-assessment, you need it even more to monitor the performance of your business. You need to monitor how much you are spending and how much R.O.I (return-on-investment) you are getting on your expenditure. Without tracking and monitoring your expenses, how will you be able to know whether your business is making a profit or loss, whether it is worth running, and above all, what you need to change to maximize your profits and minimize your expenses?

I use a cashbook to track my monthly income and expenditure, but it is ok if you do not know how to use a cashbook. An Excel(tm) database will do just as well. Record you monthly and yearly income and expenditure in an Excel(tm) database and name it ' My Income and Expenditure Manager' or whatever you like to call it. There is a lot of accounting software packages available in the market, like Quicken(tm), Quick Books(tm), etc, and if you can afford it, then I would suggest that you purchase one of these software to make your tasks easier.

The last thing you need to track is your advertising campaign. Now, I am sure that many 'gurus' have told you how essential it is for a business owner to track his ads. Do not make the mistake of thinking that a well-written ad will pull in a huge income for you. Not all ads work all the time and even some well-written ads need to be monitored to see whether they are working or not. Keep an Excel(tm) database of all your ad campaigns and name it ' My Ad Manager'. Once you see which ads are making you profits and which are not, you can dump the poorly performing ads and continue with the successful ones. If you are not tracking your ad campaigns, then you are literally throwing money down the drain!

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably seen some sort of advertisement for a home based online business. My point is that making a lot of money online would be a wonderful thing. If you really want to start your own online business, then go for it, and do your best to make it succeed. Maybe your job does not pay enough and you want some extra cash in your pocket. People being paid to fill out the online survey questionnaire are a bit self-conscious about giving their opinions. They may say defensive things such as, "Hey, I don't know! That's just my opinion. Someone else might think differently!" or, "Who am I to say? Who am I to decide that?"

They need to understand the principle of opinion sampling. The principle of sampling states that with a more or less homogeneous population, a sampling of a representative few will accurately reflect the whole population within a few percentage points. To get more accuracy, take bigger representative samples.

That means, for example, that if a mayonnaise packer and seller desires to know what percentage of the people in Pennsylvania prefers lemon flavored mayonnaise over other flavors, they do not have to ask everyone in Pennsylvania! If they ask a representative sample of Pennsylvanians, say 1,500 to 3,000, which mayonnaise they prefer, they can project the results onto the entire population within a 'margin of error' of between 2.5 and 4%. That's close enough for most marketing planning purposes.

So when you receive an invitation to take a survey, do not worry about what other people might think or say. Your survey info is part of the sample they are taking. Chances are if you think a certain way, there are others who feel the same way. Just give your honest opinion. The survey maker does not care if you are in the 90% group or the 10% group. What they care about is whether the opinions are split 90-10, or 10-90, (or 60-40!).

When people make buying decisions, the only valid opinion is their own, which is only fair, and entirely correct. After all, they are buying the product for themselves, with their own money! 1. Set your home office up away from the busiest area of your home. If you have children, you will probably need a dedicated space, because if you are in view of your children, they will demand your attention. It is best for them to understand that when Mommy is in her office, she is working, and only to be disturbed in the event of an emergency. Of course, this advice is meant for older children, who do not need constant supervision. Make sure you spell out exactly what qualifies as an emergency. Because for children, not being able to find a shoe is an emergency.

2. Try to set up your office in a room with a window. Everyone needs a break now and then. It is relaxing to look outside at a tree, the birds, and flowers. You get the idea. If you do not have a room with a window, decorate your office with cheery pictures and things you love. Personalize it. You will want to come there and work more.

3. Arrange things in your office so they are easy to locate and easy to access. A bulletin board with pushpins is a great and quick way to remind yourself of something you do not want to forget. Have paper, ink, staplers, pens, pencils, and Post-its close by. Place a bookcase close by for books that you may need for your work. Try to pick up after yourself every day, so that your office does not become cluttered. It is hard to work in a messy environment. You will lose things, and you will not be as productive.

4. If you must have a phone close by (your children are away or in school); then by all means, have it close by. But when possible, leave the phone outside the office. It will be an easy excuse to stop working. But mostly, it is difficult to be productive when there are constant interruptions.
